The Red Bull promo released for "Destiny The Taken King" was recently bugged by scammers. The new reward scheme was a deal between Red Bull and "Destiny" developer Bungie that will incorporate codes into Red Bull cans in exchange of in-game items and upgrades.
One player using the handle TheTakenSkullOwnz claimed to have created and shared more than 18,000 codes, according to Gaming Bolt. In just a matter of days after the release of the promo scheme, "Destiny" players were able to create a tricky algorithm in order to cheat the system.
According to NeoGaf, the steps are relatively simple and includes making up a code composed of the number 3, 4, 7 and letters X, C and K.
The promo codes will give players 50 percent XP bonus and exclusive in-game mission once the new "Destiny" expansion will be released. "Destiny The Taken King" expansion will be released on Sept. 15, while the exclusive contents will be made available to all players after Jan. 1, 2016.
This new scheme benefits the cheaters, this cheating scheme poses a problem for users who legitimately purchase a Red Bull product since those codes could have been generated and redeemed already by scammers. There are reports claiming that gamers who tried to redeem their Red Bull codes were unable to do so since it was already used by someone else.
The new cheating scheme has also caused the Red Bull redemption website to crash due to excessive traffic.
The "Destiny The Taken King" and Red Bull promotion is tied exclusively to 7-Eleven stores. This means that Red Bull merchandise sold in other retailers will not contain the promo codes.
Both Red Bull and "Destiny" publisher Activision has yet to comment about the situation.
