The next adventure in the space epic's Anthology series will feature a Han Solo spin-off movie helmed by filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Lord and Miller, who are behind movie hits such "The LEGO Movie" and "21 Jump Street," will be directing the Han Solo spin off. The new "Star Wars" film will focus the life of a younger Han Solo, reported StarWars.com and how the character became the smuggler, thief and scoundrel. A Han Solo whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.
Lord and Miller said in a statement that the project is a "dream come true" and both are looking forward to creating a film with "some of the greatest characters ever." The duo also wrote: "This is the first film we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us."
The Han Solo spin-off will be written by Jon Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan, stated the Washington Post. Jon Kasdan wrote and directed "The First Time" which premiered in the Sundance Film Festival. Jon's father, Lawrence, co-wrote three of the "Star Wars" films, including "Return of the Jedi" and "The Empire Strikes Back."
The movie will be produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin, and co-produced by Will Alegra. The "Star Wars" Han Solo spin-off is slated to hit movie theaters on May 25, 2018.
