Red Devils striker and Netherlands team captain Robin van Persie is rumored to be heading to Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK as the two camps allegedly had agreed in principle for his big move, according to ESPN.
Coming off yet another mediocre season for Manchester United under his World Cup Dutch coach Louis van Gaal, noise of an impending transfer became louder and louder as the year draws to a close.
Recently, speculations were out that van Persie's agent, Kees Vos, had been at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium the past couple of days to discuss the forward's future with the Yellow Canaries.
United and Fenerbahçe have not yet agreed to any transfer fee and the other details of a formal contract, but van Persie had reportedly already given his nod to the Istanbul-based club.
The 31-year-old Netherlands international only scored 10 goals in 29 caps for the Old Trafford residents last season, which is another big letdown after an 18 of 28 campaign in 2013-2014. He went 30 of 48 in 2012-2013, his last remarkable season so far.
However, a report by The Independent on Monday said that the rumors were untrue and that van Persie had not personally contacted the Süper Lig squad.
The article also said that the striker is set to report to United's practice session this week and that he intends to stay at Old Trafford, according to Vos.
"If Robin had found a new club, we would have announced it," Vos simply said. He went on to say that he was in the Netherlands the whole time and had not spent last weekend in Istanbul.
