Casts and panel of "Game of Thrones" at this year's San Diego Comic Con were too quiet about plot lines and any major casting announcement for the series. Even the announcement of customary Comic-Con casting video was missing during the talk.
Author George R.R. Martin and creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff were not present, as well as the sight of Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, and Emilia Clarke were missing. Those stars present in San Diego Comic Con such as Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, and Natalie Dormer did not reveal anything new for the upcoming Season 6 of the series in 2016.
One of the speculations on why there is no casting announcement for this year is that San Diego Comic Con is a bit early than the usual. The normal date for the convention usually falls at the end of July. These dates are perfect for debuting new set of actors who will join the TV series. Usually, the casting begins on June 15 and producers need the actors signed and set to announce on the last Friday of July, according to Winter is Coming.
Both casts and creators present in the convention successfully avoided the issue of spoilers. This is another explanation on why they did not discuss anything that will lead to any spoilers for the fans. Game of Thrones' Season 5 has almost deviate from the entire books, outpacing Martin's narrative and giving a more liberal approach to the series. It is possible that Weiss, Benioff, and HBO are gracious enough to protect Martin's story, carefully avoiding any kind of spoilers until the last book is out.
Martin's next book, "The Winds of Winter", may possibly be out in three months or so before Season 6 begins on HBO next year. It is also possible that both Weiss and Benioff are waiting for Martin to narrate the next stories for each character, prolonging the casting announcement for the next few months. Martin stated that he really plans to finish off the 6th book before Season 6 starts, Vanity Fair reported.
Conleth Hill who played Varys said that Season 6 is amazing; while Theon/Reek played by Alfie Allen added that it is unpredictable, basing their comments on the script for the upcoming season.
Croatia, Spain and Belfast are among the locations where Season 6 shooting will be held starting next month.
