Mario Balotelli's future with Premier League club Liverpool FC is reportedly uncertain after team manager Brendan Rogers told the 24-year-old Italian striker that it is up to him if he wants to stay in Anfield or go somewhere else.
The Guardian reported that although Balotelli was not part of the Reds preseason tour in Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia, Rogers is still not counting him out of the team for next season.
Balotelli, who was transferred from Serie A club AC Milan for £16 million entering the 2014 season, had struggled all year long to find his place in Liverpool's system. He scored only four goals in 28 appearances with only one of those goals made in the Premiere League, which led him to become a top transfer candidate again this summer.
The imminent signing of former Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke would put Balotelli further behind the ranks in Liverpool.
Speaking to reporters before one of their friendlies in Malaysia, Rogers said that he is "not sure" whether Balotelli would be back next season, and it is "entirely up to Mario" whether he wants to return or not.
Reports have arisen that his other former club, Inter Milan, have also rejected Liverpool's offer for the Italy national's transfer, according to ESPN.
With his game slowly on a decline and his stats dwindling, it seems like no team is interested in bringing in one of the Serie A's former top scorers. During his two-season stint with I Rossoneri in 2012 to 2014, he scored 30 goals in 54 games.
