"The Voice" season 9 will see a new set of mentors and it will include Selena Gomez, Missy Elliott, John Fogerty and Brad Paisley.
According to Us Weekly, the new mentors will act as the old ones' counterparts. With this, Gomez, Fogerty, Paisley and Elliott will serve as mentors to the teams of Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams, respectively.
Throughout the past eight seasons, "The Voice" has seen a decline in terms of audience share and ratings. This is why the inclusion of the new mentors was decided upon by the creators to ensure that this season's ratings will become much better compared to past seasons.
In an interview with the publication, one source said that Gomez, 23, became a first choice among "The Voice" creators because she is a favorite on the show. Despite her young age, the "I Want You To Know" singer was able to contribute a lot on the show when she acted as guest in the past.
Meanwhile, Levine has always wanted to work with Fogerty so their partnership on the show is one to watch. Elliott and Pharrell are good friends so their chemistry will also be good for the show, Billboard reported.
In other news, Shelton will continue to act as coach and mentor on "The Voice" season 9 despite rumors that he is quitting the show after divorcing country singer Miranda Lambert. Shelton and Lambert announced their divorce on Jul. 20. Since then, cheating rumors have been surrounding the estranged couple.
"The Voice" season 9 will premiere on NBC on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
