With J.J. Abrams' forthcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" coming in theaters this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger lacks confidence on the audience response to the upcoming sci-fi film.
In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Iger said that he and the rest of the staff of the House of Mouse are thrilled to see a fresh "Star Wars" film, as people have not seen one since 2005. Excited on what they know about the film, the Disney CEO said that the international audience are less wary of the franchise than the United States.
According to Cinema Blend, while Iger talked about the unfamiliarity of the other market with the film, he gave recognition to the triumph of the first two teaser clips, the affirmative response of the people to the new products of the franchise, as well as the behind-the-scenes revelations at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Film analysts assume that Abrams' "Star Wars VII - The Force Awakens" will gross between $650 million to $750 million in a local scale. They also believe that the film will yield $1.3 million to $1.5 billion in a global scale. These figures imply that Iger's revelation is his means of preparation for the film's potential once it hits the big screen.
"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" stars Simon Pegg, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford, among others.
With Abrams set to helm the film, George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan are on board to pen the screenplay of the film.
Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Dec. 18. Watch the film's official teaser here:
