"Castle" showrunner Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley recently explained how Kate Beckett's big decision could impact the direction of the hit ABC series.
In an interview with TV Guide, Winter and Hawley explained that Beckett becoming the new captain of the 12th Precinct means that she will be working with Esposito and Ryan much differently compared to before. Her new position as captain will also affect his relationship with Rick Castle.
Meanwhile, Hawley explained why they decided to give Beckett a different task in season 8. According to the showrunner, this was in line with their desire to shake things up a little bit for the show.
Ahead of Winter, Hawley and ABC's confirmation, fans speculated that Beckett could join the senate. In season 7, she desired to enter politics and at that time, "Castle" was still in danger of being axed. It was later on confirmed by the network that show will be renewed and that Stana Katic will return to reprise her role.
In other news, Hawley and Winter also revealed exciting details from the upcoming eighth season. While speaking with TV Line, Hawley explained why they decided to keep Beckett in the precinct and not in the senate and it was because they found that her presence there could tell the story of the story better.
This means that other than their professional lives, the personal lives of Beckett and Rick will continue to be explored in the upcoming installment.
"Castle" season 8 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. ET.
