Disney's live-action panel at D23 Expo has unveiled the first poster for Jon Favreau's upcoming "The Jungle Book."
The photo features a shrine deep in the jungle, with Mowgli looking at Bagheera, the black panther. It can also be seen that several monkeys inhabit the place, along with a large snake wrapped on a tree branch. It can be assumed in the photo that Mowgli and Bagheera are talking about a particular matter, along with their actual size proportions in the upcoming film.
According to Cinema Blend, Bagheera looks so dominant and intimidating in the new poster while Mowgli looks tiny and innocent. In addition to their size differences in the photo, these details suggest how unlikely a friendship will emerge.
In March, Favreau told Collider that his upcoming film will feature a solid allegorical theme. The director also mentioned that he will utilize modern technology and storytelling techniques as he integrates countless images and feelings he remembered from being a child into the film.
"The Jungle Book" follows the story of an orphan boy who is raised in the jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther. The film's voice cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken, Giancarlo Esposito, Lupita Nyong'o, and Emjay Anthony. "Diwali" actor Neel Sethi is playing the role of Mowgli, among others.
"Iron Man" director Jon Favreau is set to helm the film. Rudyard Kipling, who wrote the script of the 1967 and 1975 film adaptations of "The Jungle Book" is set to pen the screenplay, along with Justin Marks who is known for writing the script of Andrzej Bartkowiak's action film "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li."
Favreau's "The Jungle Book" live-action film is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Apr. 15, 2016.
