South Korean spy action drama “Assassination” has become the first local film to pass the 10-million admission mark for this year.
Directed by Choi Dong-hoon, the movie was released in June and passed the said mark in August. Choi co-wrote the film with Lee Ki-cheol.
“Assassination” has an all-star cast.
From being a wealthy cheating husband in Im Sang-soo’s 2010 drama thriller, “The Housemaid,” Lee Jung-jae acts as an interim government agent in the movie.
The unnamed female lead in Kwak Jae-yong’s 2001 rom-com blockbuster hit, “My Sassy Girl,” Jun Ji-hyun (Gianna Jun) is far from being sassy as she brings down enemies one by one as a resistance sniper.
Starring as a wicked lieutenant in Kim Seong-hun’s critically acclaimed 2014 crime thriller, “A Hard Day,” which earned him a Best Actor award and two Best Supporting Actor awards, Cho Jin-woong works with Lee and is nicknamed "Rapid-fire Big Gun."
Playing a taxi driver in Shin Jae-young’s 2014 thriller, “Manhole,” Choi Deok-moo is an explosives expert and Cho’s prison mate.
A top news anchor who falls from grace and tries to redeem back his lost glory, albeit in a devious way in Kim Byung-woo’s 2013 thriller, “The Terror Live,” Ha Jung-woo is a hit man using the alias “Hawaii Pistol.”
A married guy who secretly wears women’s clothes in Lee Hae-young’s 2010 sex comedy, “Foxy Festival,” Oh Dal-su is Ha’s sidekick and goes by the name “Old Man.”
Choi directed Lee, Jun and Oh in the 2012 heist film, “The Thieves.” With a $14-million budget, it proved to be a huge success as it grossed some $85 million at the box office.
Ahn Soo-hyun, Choi’s wife, produced “Assassination,” which is their first collaboration.
