Jon Stewart, host of satirical news program "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, left the show in an emotional and tearful exit, but he didn't exactly retire from television completely.

Since leaving the show last August 6, Stewart signed a deal to host World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) Summerslam event which takes place Sunday, August 23, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

From its inception, The Daily Show on Comedy Central constantly achieved critical acclaim and grew in popularity, which resulted in 18 Emmy Awards throughout the years.

Stewart, host of The Daily Show for 16 years from 1999 to 2015, is also a comedian, writer, producer, director, and media critic. He was former host of MTV's "The Jon Stewart Show" and also appeared in many films as an actor.

He was once on WWE before when a storyline saw him stand opposite WWE heavyweight champion Seth Rollins inside the squared circle.

Stewart and Rollins engaged in a feud that began when heavyweight champ provoked Stewart in a video posted on the internet. Rollins then went on to crossover to The Daily Show in a skit where the he challenged Stewart to appear on Monday Night RAW so they could settle matters inside the ring.

Stewart then made his live appearance on RAW, memorably delivering a kick to Rollins' groin that got the crowd cheering.

A longtime fan of the WWE and of pro-wrestling, Stewart will host the nearly four hour event on Sunday starting at 7pm ET live on the WWE Network.

Other matches include Seth Rollins versus John Cena, and The Undertaker versus Brock Lesnar.

This however isn't the first time the WWE has tapped into other media and celebrities to partake in its storylines.

Most recently, UFC women's bantamweight champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey appeared at Wrestlemania 31 last March.

Rousey teamed up with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to scramble with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Stewart's appearance at Summerslam is a welcome inclusion to the world of the WWE, a leader in sports entertainment since the 1950's.

It is the largest professional wrestling promotion in the world and holds over 300 events per year.
