The Duke Blue Devils are the champions of College Basketball, and they have already built a prideful tradition. But sometimes, a talent comes along that pushes them to break it.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski is an unquestionable judge of talent. He has recruited and molded numerous players, many of which have reached the NBA.
With one of the best programs in the country, Duke is rarely at a loss for talent and is always considered a prime destination. Thus, Coach K can be selective with his recruits and he has the luxury of not having to scurry for young talent, especially at the sophomore level.
But every once in a while, there comes a player with talent that is clearly a game changer, even Duke would break their traditional stance for him. Marvin Bagley III is one such talent.
A brief profile of Marvin Bagley III from 24/7 sports: "Bagley, whose father went to high school in Durham, NC, is one of the earliest players ever to receive an offer from Duke University. Duke's Coach K, who always prefers to wait before extending a scholarship offer, made the decision just days after the Bagleys visited the Durham campus."
His achievements: "This past season, Marvin Bagley III was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of Year, after leading Corona Del Sol in Tempe to a fourth consecutive state title, while averaging 19.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks."
Bagley is receiving even more attention than Jahlil Okafor, a Duke recruit who brought them to their national title. Duke Basketball Report is already covering him (since he is now a Duke prospect) and they reported his transfer from Corona Del Sol to Hillcrest, also in Arizona, where his father will also coach.
Bagley is 6-10 and he is both athletic and mobile with a decent mid-range shot. But those are better seen than read. Here's a video of his freshman highlights-emphasis on Freshman.
