Cortana is coming to more than just the Windows 10 PC and Windows Phone. Now users across Android devices can now enjoy the benefits of having a personal digital assistant who has been an iconic face in one of the most well-known games in history, "Halo."
Microsoft has recently announced the launch of Cortana as a beta app on Android, as stated via the official Windows blog. What this brings is ease and extension of use, particularly for those who are already Windows 10 users. Regardless of the device that a user carries, Cortana's function can follow wherever the user goes.
For the most part, the Cortana app can help with everyday routine, including reminders, easy Internet searching, information tracking and, most importantly, keeping all of these synced across devices. This is already an open beta for Android users, but Microsoft did confirm that not all functionality from the Windows Phone experience is present in Android. Some functions that are still missing include opening apps, calling on Cortana hands-free via voice and toggling settings.
Currently the Cortana app on Android is still limited to U.S. residents, with plants to launch in other markets soon. The Cortana app is also coming to iOS devices. However, Microsoft has not given any statement regarding the timeline of the app's release on Apple devices.
There is a way to put Cortana to an Apple device, specifically the Mac. There are two ways found so far, namely through the programs Parallels and Apple's Boot Camp, Gizmodo reported. In Parallels, a new update will bring the Windows 10 to the Mac, including Cortana.
One bonus is that users will experience a seamless OS that incorporates the two OS. Dubbed as the Parallels 11, the update will enable the Mac user to summon Cortana with an easy phrase like "Hey, Cortana." Apart from the Windows 10 benefits, the Parallels 11 update also allows the device to be more battery efficient and 50 percent faster in booting time.
Parallels 11 is available to first-time user for $80. Those who do have Parallel 9 and 10 will only have to pay $50.
