A couple moved their marriage ceremony from August to April of this year after learning that the groom had terminal liver cancer. He passed away recently and his funeral was held on August 22, Saturday, the original wedding date.
Solomon Chau died at the age of 26. He and his girlfriend Jennifer Carter had begun planning their wedding in April 2014, but in the midst of their preparations Chau received a liver cancer diagnosis last December.
The couple then moved the wedding date from August to April 11. They tied the knot on that date after learning that Chau's cancer had become terminal.
Chau's and Carter's friends had launched a crowdfunding campaign that raised over $50,000 for the couple's wedding, according to Toronto Star. Hundreds of people made donations.
Chau passed away early last week. It was ironically within a week of the original wedding date, which had been set before learning that his cancer was terminal.
Chau had received an operation to remove the cancer from his liver, and the surgeons thought the procedure had been a success. However, he suffered severe stomach pains early this year, and was told by his physicians that his disease had already spread.
A touching video from the wedding shows the young couple dancing together. The wedding pictures also reveal a happy ceremony, even though they had received the bad news about Chau's declining health a few weeks earlier.
When Carter announced her husband's death, she referred to him as the most "incredible" person she had ever known, according to Daily Mail. He was optimistic during the last months of his life.
The couple met when they were 19 years old. Solomon was holding a house party in Ontario, Canada, to celebrate his 19th birthday.
In her Facebook post announcing Chau's death, Carter mentioned that she would see him on the front porch, a reference to the couple imagining death as a vacation just before Chau passed away. He said he would await his family there.
