The official NBA 2K16 player ratings are trickling out and some players and fans are not happy with the results. One example would be the Utah Jazz fans.
A series of player ratings were recently tweeted by Ronnie 2K and most of them featured centers. Two of the featured players were Rudy Gobert and Hassan Whiteside-players who improved their game significantly.
Rudy Gobert, who was bestowed as the "Stifle Tower" on account of his shotblocking ability and French lineage, eventually tweeted the result, and invited reactions with the caption: "Shoutout to @Ronnie2K for the pic! I let you guys tell me what you think about the rating.."
Rudy Gobert was rated 79.
Sure enough, the Utah faithful were quick to oblige. Admittedly, NBA 2k player ratings are not an exact science. The criteria they use are not exactly clear and the only basis for debate would be player comparisons. In this case, it's Hassan Whiteside and Rudy Gobert.
Hassan Whiteside was rated 81.
The Miami Heat journeyman center who has found himself without an NBA team, even reaching China and Lebanon, is delighted to find his way back, and even more delighted with the recognition from NBA 2k.
Whiteside tweeted: "Thanks @NBA2K @Ronnie2K for making me 1 of 50 players to have a 80+ rating #2k16 #NBA2K16"
Utah Jazz fan blog Purple and Blues cited that the rating-relative to Gobert's, was rather inaccurate. They mention that they are "fans" of Whiteside and are happy for his resurgence, but to rate him higher than Gobert would be wrong.
"Where I hit the blockade is the assertion that Whiteside is the better player, something Jazz fans are now up in arms about on Twitter."
They cite the statistics of the two players after Enes Kanter was traded to the OKC Thunder-when Gobert was given more playing time.
"In those 29 games, Gobert averaged 11.1 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and one steal per game. His PIE (player impact estimate) score was 17.4 in that span. For the year, Whiteside averaged 11.8 points, 10 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 0.6 steals per game. Whiteside's PIE stat came in at 17.3."
They cite that Whiteside is a "quality player" but even the numbers would say, Gobert is better. NBA 2K must realize that.
