Former National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season league MVP, Chicago Bulls Guard Derrick Rose, has just been accused by an ex-girlfriend that he drugged and gang-raped her.
The story was reported by TMZ Sports specifying that an unnamed woman had slapped a case on the NBA superstar, along with two of his friends, for the illegal sex act.
The woman claims that she and Rose had been romantically linked and were dating between 2011 and 2013.
She has accused Rose that during that period, he forced her to masturbate while he was watching, to participate in group sex with strangers, and to allow him to engage in sexual acts with her friends, which she all refused to.
The accuser claims that she and Rose had continued their relationship all the way up to August 2013, when Rose, his friend Ryan Allen and personal manager Randall Hampton called her up to Rose's home in Beverly Hills, where she said they slipped a drug into her drink with the intention of gang-raping her.
She then claims she escaped Rose's Beverly Hills estate with the help of a friend.
Later in the evening, the plaintiff says Rose and his friends gained illegal access to her apartment and continued to rape her while she was unconscious. The woman then claims she remembers only vivid images and flashes of the encounter, but can definitely remember Rose and his friends raping her.
The woman is seeking unspecified damages.
This is a terrible turn of events for one of the NBA's most beloved superstars. Rose led the Chicago Bulls to the number one seed in the NBA during the 2010-2011 season, as he clinched regular season league MVP honors, joining Michael Jordan as the only two players in history to win the award in Chicago Bulls history.
The Bulls however, fell to the LeBron James led Miami Heat in five games in the Eastern Conference Finals.
This isn't the first major sex scandal to hit the NBA.
In the Summer of 2003, the sherriff's office of Eagle, Colorado arrested Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant as he was accused of sexual assault by a 19-year old hotel employee. Bryant was in Colorado to have surgery done on an ailing knee during the offseason. The suit was dropped a year later after the accuser refused to testify, however by that time, Bryant's reputation had already been tarnished.
