After more than a year in the market, the Fire Phone will soon be discontinued by Amazon.
Retailer giant Amazon has announced that it would stop producing the Fire Phone, the company's first ever attempt at the mobile market, reported by Tech Republic.
The smartphone's poor sales and weak reception from consumers are just a few reasons why the company is discontinuing the device.
However, the report mentioned that Amazon might still be planning to revive its mobile phone business. The retailer giant is rumored to be transfering the Fire Phone's production from Silicon Valley, to the company's Seattle offices.
In addition, Amazon is reportedly planning to launch other devices in the future, including tablets, a special type of stylus, and even a 'smart' kitchen cabinet, Tech Republic reported.
In all fairness to the Amazon Fire Phone, it was one of the most anticipated smartphone releases in 2014, especially that it boasts some unique features.
Unfortunately, it was apparent that Amazon's purpose for the Fire Phone was not to sell the device itself, but promote the company's own services, particularly Amazon Prime.
To make things worse, Amazon included a forked version of Android, one that does not offer the same freedom and functionality as other 'normal' Android-powered phones, Fortune reported.
Still, in spite Amazon pulling the plug from the Fire Phone, the final stocks of the device are still available for $125, with free shipping and Amazon Prime included, as reported by Android Police.
