"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 star Ian Somerhalder recently hinted on the possibility of leaving The CW series.
Somerhalder, who plays the role of Damon Salvatore on "The Vampire Diaries, has been posting cryptic photos via his Instagram account.
Fans are speculating that the actor has plans to leave the series after season 7 because there are also rumors that Nina Dobrev could return.
According to KPopStarz, Dobrev could return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 or season 8 if her new engagements will not work out for her.
Executive producer Julie Plec has been very vocal about her desire to re-invite Dobrev to be part of the series. This is the very reason why fans believe that if Dobrev says she wants to reprise her role as Elena, there would not be any problem.
Other than this, fans of "The Vampire Diaries" all know that Elena did not die in the finale episode. Rather, she went to a long-term sleep, which is estimated at roughly 60 years.
This storyline automatically paves the way for the actress to return to the series anytime she pleases.
However, Dobrev's return could only mean the exit of Somerhalder. There are multiple reports that claim Somerhalder's wife, Nikki Reed, no longer wants the two to work together.
Somerhalder and Dobrev were in a relationship for a couple of years before they decided to end their relationship. Despite their breakup, the two have remained amicable with each other.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 8.
