South African police arrested on Thursday a Danish man in Bloemfontein whose freezer yielded 21 frozen genitalia. The female genitals were placed inside plastic bags.
One of the genitals had a woman's name and other vital information such as a year, 2010, and a country, Lesotho, which could help authorities determine if a crime was committed. Warrant Office Lynda Steyn says the suspect is apparently collecting the genitals as trophies, reports the New York Post.
Police spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi said they are not sure yet how many women the suspect, Peter Frederiksen, had victimized, but authorities are trying to trace them, reports the Nigerian Guardian News.
Reports said that police was tipped by Frederiksen's wife whom he allegedly drugged, and while she was unconscious, he cut off her genitalia. Boston New Times reveals that the suspect has openly discussed practicing female genital manipulation in the past.
He admitted to journalist Jorn Starry of performing genital mutilation in the past which he learned the procedure from Dr Jorn Ege whom Frederiksen met at a dinner in Skodsborg Strandve.
Ege is a cosmetic surgeon who does breast and penis enlargement procedures. His Scandinavin Clinic of Plastic Surgery filed for bankruptcy in 2004 after many patients filed lawsuits for disfiguring them.
On Monday, the man appeared before the Free State province court. The crowd booed him as he entered the courtroom. The suspect is 58, married and has two children.
The police also found in his house anesthetic and surgical implements, including a pair of pliers.
