Leonardo DiCaprio is one of those who have promised to divest from fossil fuels like oil, coal and gas. Tom Hardy's "The Revenant" co-star joined more than 400 institutions and 2,000 individuals on Sept. 22, Tuesday, with total assets of $2.6 trillion, according to investment experts' new research.
As revealed by the report launched in New York by investment consultancy Arabella Advisors, the movement to take money out of fossil fuels has grown 50-fold in only one year while more capital is flowing into solutions to climate change problems, including renewable energy.
On behalf of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which supports conservation projects worldwide, Dicaprio said that climate change is severely affecting the health of the earth and all of its inhabitants as he announced his promise to divest from fossil fuels.
"We must transition to a clean energy economy that does not rely on fossil fuels, the main driver of this global problem," "The Revenant" actor said in a statement obtained by Reuters.
DiCaprio is set to play a vengeful fur trapper named Hugh Glass in Alejandro González Iñárritu's "The Revenant" opposite Hardy as John Fitzgerald. For the Western thriller set for release on Christmas, Hardy completed an eight-month shoot in Alberta and Argentina.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Hardy said Iñárritu picked up from "Birdman" and decided to make it work with "The Revenant" "in the great outdoors, in natural light, in minus-20 degrees Celsius."
"The Revenant" also stars Will Poulter, Domhnall Gleeson, Paul Anderson, Lukas Haas, Brad Carter, Javier Botet, Brendan Fletcher, Kristoffer Joner, Kory Grim, Robert Moloney and Dave Burchill, among others.
