"Person of Interest' season 5 may turn out to be the series' final season as more deaths surface. Star Michael Emerson (Harold Finch) in a recent interview on the upcoming episodes of the CBS sci-fi drama said that fans should concentrate on two major areas.
Talking to Indie Wire, Emerson said, "I think because we're thinking of this like an ending - although I'm guessing it will be ambiguous enough to be pursued later on - it's an ending."
The lead actor pointed out that splashy endings will normally include casualties, and therefore, there are high chances that a number of characters will be lost either through death or transformation. Those who will undergo transformation may change to either good or bad.
In season 4, fans saw the machine referring to Finch, its builder, as "Father." Reportedly, Finch will struggle to remain a good person in the next season. The first part of season 5 will focus on rebuilding the machine.
Samantha "Root" Groves (Amy Acker) may be central in adjusting Finch's development. She will turn out to be an obsession for Finch, after the two realize that what they are fighting for will likely be the end of the entire human race. Finch's relationship with Groves will grow, and more vulnerabilities will emerge about her.
According to Emerson, Finch's priorities will be divided in season 5. The character understands that the main mission is still the same, but the team has to identify the victims and offenders. He will deal with distributing resources equally against a program that controls the entire universe.
The machine creator also said that Carrie Preston (Grace Hendricks) and Sarah Shahi (Sameen Shaw) will feature in season 5. Furthermore, they have filmed scenes about Bear, the Belgian Malinois adopted by John Reese (Jim Caviezel). According to Cinema Blend, Shaw will turn out to be alive in the upcoming season.
