Yesterday, the Second Intermediate People's Court opened the hearing of two cases; Ms. Yang, who was charged with intentional homicide and her Father Mr. Yang who was also charged with the crime of harboring.

Yang parked at the garage near the shopping mall and went shopping with her friends that day. Ding saw her when she returned to the garage about an hour later and asked her for 40 RMB parking fee.

Yang thought the fee is unreasonal and refused to pay. The two started arguing. Yang later agreed to pay Ding 10 RMB and started the car to get ready to leave. Ding wouldn't give up and put his hand on the driver's door to follow the car out of the parking lot.

Yang saw Ding's action and stopped the car. She backed up a little bit and assuming that Ding would just let her go, started the car again and drove off. She heard something crashed, however, she was too scared to stop and check.

Right after the accident, Yang called her father for help. The father came to the site and drove her car home. Yang's father was arrested when he came to the police station for the police report the next day. Yang was arrested the same afternoon.

"If I'd know he was following my car, I would have stopped" Yang said, "I didn't intend to kill anyone and I feel truly sorry for what I did."

The Prosecutor believed that the car speed and her awareness of the surrounding situation make her actions consistent with indirect intentional homicide. However, the defending counsel believed that there is no actual intention on Yang's part to murder the victim. It's simply not logical for someone to murder another person for only 30 RMB. There was no evidence to prove that Yang had any of such intention.

Ding's brother-in-law Mr. Bai, said Ding is originally from Hu Bei. He has a 22 years old daughter and a son who's currently in college. Ding is very dedicated in collecting fees at the parking lot because the rent is about 900 RMB per day and he will be losing money if the fees he charges the costumers do not cover the rent.

Ding's family has filed a claim of 880,000 RMB. Yang and her father have agreed to pay for the compensation.
