The 8-month long filming of "Wolf Totem" has officially wrapped up.
The announcement was made by lead Chinese actor Feng Shaofeng on Dec.16 on Weibo.com.
The last few scenes of Wolf Totem were filmed in Inner Mongolia where the temperature had dropped to minus 40 degrees celcius.
"My skin has already chapped and is now bleeding," said Feng in his Weibo post, which showed photos of the film staff all heavily clad in coats and hats during filming.
Wolf Totem was written by novelist Jiang Rong based on his personal experience in the Mongolian plains. By presenting the world of wolves, the novel serves as a wake-up for people to try to live harmoniously with nature.
The film adaptation of the novel was directed by French director Jean-Jacques Annaud, who is well known for his animal-centered films such as "The Bear" and "Two Brothers".
Preparation for Wolf Totem's filming took four years as the wolves had to be be raised and trained for their role in the movie.
The 3D film is set to be released in 2014 and features Feng Shaofeng, Dou Xiao, Ang Ha Ni Ma, Ba Sen Zha Bu and Yin Zhusheng, among others.
