‘Hotel Transylvania 2’: Genndy Tartakovsky’s Animated Film Fails To Impress Film Critics

Genndy Tartakovsky's animated comedy film "Hotel Transylvania 2" lacked positive reviews from critics.

According to The Christian Science Monitor, film critics said that Tartakovsky's "Hotel Transylvania 2" was slightly entertaining and events are foreseeable. Some critics also said that the sequel was "safe... tame to a fault" and "by the numbers.

Tartakovsky's "Hotel Transylvania" has received an estimated domestic gross of $148 million dollars and an approximate foreign gross of $210 million, for a total of an estimated gross of $358 million worldwide. While the gross of the first film is substantial, it also received undesirable feedback from movie critics. They said that the film lost its originality and it was not dynamic.

"Hotel Transylvania 2" was cute, but dim distraction for the young audience, as per Screen Rant. The publication added that the film would be enjoyed by some parents who were looking to divert their children for few hours. While the film was able to provide entertainment for young children, it did not manage to showcase a cinematic experience to the older audience.

"Hotel Transylvania 2" serves as the sequel to Tartakovsky's "Hotel Transyvlvania." It follows Dracula and his friends as they try to bring out the monster in his half-vampire half-human grandson to keep his daughter Mavis from leaving the titular hotel.

With Tartakovsky in the director's seat, "Pixels" actor Adam Sandler and "Louie" writer Robert Smigel are on board to pen the film script. Meanwhile, Allen Covert, Skyle Lyons, Michelle Murdocca, and ben Waisbren are set to co-produce the film.

"Hotel Transylvania 2" features the voices of Jonny Solomon, Mel Brooks, Nick Offerman, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher, Keegan-Michael Key, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, and Sandler.

Directed by Tartakovsky, "Hotel Transylvania 2" is now showing in theaters.
