Red, the manufacturer of professional cameras used for Hollywood blockbuster movies such as "The Hobbit," "Jurassic World," and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has launched a new model for film producers with smaller budgets. Raven is lightweight and portable at 3.5 pounds (1.6 kilograms), contains a Canon EF-mount and sensor for capturing 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolution footage, and is available in packages with extra tools and accessories. Red Raven's body has a price point of approximately $6,000, and is ideal for handheld, online, indie film, and drone shooting.
The 8.8 megapixel (MP) Red Dragon sensor can create 1080-pixel (60 frames per second), 2K (240 fps), and 4K (120fps) clips, according to Hot Hardware. It is a smaller version of the one included in the company's $29,000 Epic unit.
Raven is Red's most compact and lightweight video camera ever. The unit is also quite durable.
Red is offering a few packages for different applications. The roughly $9,750 "Jetpack" bundle is excellent for handheld shooting and drones, according to The Market Business. Meanwhile, the $9,950 package is for great for TV, online, and documentary producers.
Consumers will have to basically fork out $10,000 to produce clips using the Raven. However, its price tag is still substantially lower than the Epic, which has the cost of an average United States car.
Red stated that its Raven camera represents the company's belief that cinema-quality footage should not only be available to just a few people. All professional shooters should have access to them.
Red Raven can now be pre-ordered. It is scheduled to be shipped in February 2016.
