Pregnant with her ex-boyfriend's baby, Lily, a 20 something year old woman from Suzhou moved into her new boyfriend's house.
On Oct.10 in the middle of the night she gave birth to a girl in the house's bathroom. A few days later, fearful that her boyfriend was unhappy with the situation, she took her newborn daughter and drown her in a municipal inspection well. She stood beside the well for less than a minute and when the baby began to cry, she left her daughter to drown.
Over the past week, Suzhou authorities have determined that Lily was sane and able to face the charges against her. She has been arrested and formally charged.
After breaking up with her original boyfriend, a Mr. Zhao, Lily discovered that she was pregnant this past February, but did not tell anyone. This past March, she met her new boyfriend Mr. Li and in July, they moved in together with his family. At the time, Lily was already seven months pregnant but the family members had failed to notice. Soon after Lily gave birth to her duaghter, the elders of the house sent Lily and the child to the hospital. A few days later Lily checked herself and her daughter out of the hospital saying that they were "going home."
The newborn daughter was completely unaware that she was in fact on the road to her death. Before the little girl could even see the world, she was to leave it and the world was left to be shocked by the appalling crime of her own mother.
