Yesterday afternoon at 6 P.M. the Foreign Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida met with the Ambassador of China, Cheng Yong Hua during a meeting at the foreign ministry.

Both sides were working to further develop the two countries "Mutually Beneficial Relationship" pact and to continue to keep dialogue open between the two countries.

According to reports, the "Mutually Beneficial Relationship" agreement was reached by Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and then president of China Hu Jin Tao in 2006. Tensions have risen recently between Japan and China due to the dispute over Diaoyu island. In order to keep the current peace, the Chinese and Japanese officials are meeting in order to clarify each sides position on the matter.

Fumio Kishido faced the media today stating, "We are addressing this situation in a positive way and cooperatively work towards having a meaningful exchange. The atmosphere at the meeting was very good and friendly."

Chinese Ambassador Cheng emphasized that "China and Japan's relationship is very important to both sides. We will work hard to find our way back to the "Mutually Beneficial Relationship."

Neither party disclosed the content of the meeting.
