Dong Shuzhen, a British-Chinese woman born in Taiwan, is chairman of a global financial company in Britain. Over the last few years, Dong Shuzhen has committed to the cross-strait reunification and charity work in mainland China.

Since Dong sponsored impoverished children who were unable to go to school in Jiangxi, she has already sponsored 890 poor children in over 20 provinces including Jiangxi, Guizhou, Fujian, Shanghai, Gansu, Liaoning, Anhui, Henan, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, and Chongqing. The total grant amount reaches tens of millions of yuan. Dong Shuzhen has been labeled as "Goodwill Ambassador Mother Dong."

In 2012, Dong Shuzhen started sponsoring 50 poor students in Luding County of Sichuan. Dong will not stop allocating grants to them until they enter colleges. Every year, Dong provides 500 RMB to each of the 20 primary school students and 100 RMB to each of the 30 middle school students.

"Without education, China cannot become stronger and make progress. This is why I began doing charity work. I hope those kids will remember the spirit of helping others instead of my grants," said Dong Shuzhen. Dong indicated that she would keep sponsoring the 50 students in Luding County. The sponsored kids all said that they would study hard and become a useful person to the society as "Mother Dong" did. Moreover, they expressed a desire to deliver charity with practical acts.
