The Central weather Bureau at 6 A.M. today announced that the severe "yellow" smog warning would not be lifted during the next 24 hours.

An all day warning for Beijing and Hu Bei southern regions is currently in effect with a pollution grade of 4-5 (local areas could reach 6). It is predicted that Hu Bei and the Yellow and Huai River regions will be covered in a yellow haze.

It is also predicted that there will be no change in the current status of the warning. It is forecasted to be a dangerously smoggy Christmas. Many areas will reach a grade six pollution level with very poor air-quality. The above regions will not experience the highest level haze, though other regions will be even more serious. The National Weather Bureau warns residents to stay indoors, and to limit the amount of time outside to as little as possible.

A strong incoming cold front on the night of the 25th in much of the affected area will weaken the haze. From the 25th to the 27th this cold front will also bring a drop in temperature of 4 to 8°C to parts of the region.

Xi'an has already been under a cloud of pollution for the past 8 days with extreme low visibility. The Walled in city's new structures and old landmarks have become invisible in the smog. It is one of 16 cities experiencing very heavy air pollution in recent days.

The Chinese National Weather Bureau has further advised residents of affected areas to keep on guard for deteriorating conditions, and to keep young, elderly and sick indoors.
