The dean, surnamed Zhou, allegedly recruited 38 students between 2010 and 2012 for the China National Children's Center. However, Zhou did not remit the money to the school but instead diverted it to her own bank account.

Zhou admitted to the crime and told the Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court that she started her illegal practice in 2010 by recruiting three students. She said she promised the parents of the said students the three kids will attend a preschool class at the China National Children's Center without having to go through testing or the standard procedures.

She also told the court that what she did was known to some of the teachers and school health providers. Zhou said she asked teachers and health care providers to accept the money from the parents directly instead of telling the parents to pay to the school directly. In return, Zhou said she gave these school personnel up to 1,000 yuan to keep the illegal activity a secret.

The Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court heard the case and found Zhou guilty for embezzling up to 350,000 yuan. The court sentenced the preschool dean to 10 years in prison, said Beijing News.

The China National Children's Center, which is sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation, has just recently celebrated its 31st founding anniversary. Senior Chinese government officials hailed the center for its special contributions to the development of China's children and teenagers.
