"Rap God" rapper Marshall Mathers, professionally known as Eminem, took to Facebook to announce that the music video of "Phenomenal" is already available. Just three days later, the video gained more than two million views on YouTube.
Released on June 2, "Phenomenal" is from the soundtrack of Antoine Fuqua's boxing film "Southpaw," which starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Rachel McAdams, Skylan Brooks, Naomie Harris, Victor Ortiz, Beau Knapp, Miguel Gomez, and Eminem's protégé 50 Cent, among others.
The "Phenomenal" soundtrack also features Eminem's "Kings Never Die" featuring Gwen Stefani and "Raw" by Bad Meets Evil, a hip hop duo consisting of Royce da 5'9"as the Bad and Eminem as the Evil.
Released on Shady Records, the "Southpaw" soundtrack was executive produced by Eminem and Paul Rosenberg. Other artists featured in the album are James Horner, Busta Rhymes, KXNG CROOKED, Tech N9ne, Denaun, Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, Rico Love, Slaughterhouse, The Weeknd, 50 Cent, PRhyme, Logic, The Notorious B.I.G. and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
On Oct. 2, "Southpaw" returned to theaters on more than 300 screens after grossing $52.1 million since opening in July. This gives Gyllenhaal more chances to be recognized for this critically acclaimed performance in the boxing film, according to Entertainment Weekly.
After "Southpaw," Gyllenhaal starred in Baltasar Kormakur's "Everest," which was released on Sept. 25. For "Everest," he and his co-star Josh Brolin stayed in a 30,000-foot simulator longer as the responsibility to re-create something that has taken place in real life is tremendous, Just Jared has learned.
