Tech company Sony and network carrier Verizon recently announced that they are cancelling the release of Sony Xperia Z4v in the United States.
The Sony Xperia Z4v was supposed to be the US version of the Sony Z3+ which was released in some parts of the world. In some market, the smartphone carry the Z4 branding. According to CNet, both companies have agreed to cancel the release of the smartphone.
Verizon released a statement, "Verizon will no longer be launching Xperia Z4v, however we are committed to supporting Sony Mobile's product portfolio and will support existing products. Sony is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio."
Sony, on the other hand said in a statement, "Sony mobile and Verizon Wireless have made the decision not to introduce Xperia Z4v to the US market. Sony Mobiles remains dedicated to the US market and aims to build and stable business in the region."
Sony added that it has not yet announced the timeline regarding the release date of the highly anticipated Xperia Z5 series in the US region.
The two companies did not comment about the main reason as to why the smartphone will not reach US soil. Despite this, many analysts notice that both companies did not express their future plans whether Verizon will still launch Sony phones in the future.
Sony is one of the most respected brand when it comes to Android smartphone manufacturers. However, despite raving reviews from critics the company failed to capitalize it terms of market sales and up until today Sony's global market share still stalls at five percent, a statistical stagnation it has held since 2012, according to PC Mag.
