Villagers from Yuanzhou have surrounded the police detainment center as well as government offices in Yuanzhou in protest of goverment inaction on a pending murder case. Hundreds gathered in protest, as suspicions rose that local officials were protecting the self admitted murderers by postponing their trial.
Protesters are demanding for the victim imploring that local officials sentence the men immediately.
It has been over half a year since the murderers were detained, yet their trial has yet to begin. Many suspect that a local businessman has been using his relationship with local authorities in order to protect relatives in the case. Authorities from Huizhou City have since intervened and are now investigating.
According to Hong Kong media, on March 8th at 8pm the wife of Zhu Hanxuan, a Ms. Chen was in a car accident. When she got out of her car to look at the damage she was struck in the face twice by the driver of the other car. After recieving a frantic call from his wife Zhu Huanxuan arrived at the scene and was mercilessly beaten by four assailants. When he tried to escape he was stabbed from behind and died at the scene.
According to reports the four men hid out in a local guesthouse, until the turned themselves in the next day. 3 of the accused are currently being held by police, while a 17 year old has been released from custody.The family of the victim believe that the young man's familial relationship with the owner of the guesthouse allowed him to obtain his release. They accuse the guesthouse owner of pulling strings in the local government to secure his relatives release.
It is reported that although surveillance cameras were installed at the scene of the crime, the footage of the night in question has gone missing and many suspect it to be the work of somebody on the inside. Protesters have also taken issue with the local police investigation, criticizing their classification of the dagger used in the killing as a "fruit knife." Many believe the police are trying to cloud the issue in order to protect the murderers as much as possible.
