SINGAPORE -- Multi-division and former unified flyweight world champion Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria (36-4, 22 KO's) recently worked out for media at Freddie Roach's Wildcard Boxing Club in Los Angeles.
With less than two weeks to go to perhaps the biggest fight of his career, an October 17 showdown against newly crowned pound-for-pound king Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KO's) at New York's iconic Madison Square Garden, the Filipino-American slugger is ripped and looking mighty.
This is the best Viloria has looked physically since his humble beginnings in Honolulu, Hawaii. The intense preparation is of course, merited, since he will be going up against who many consider to be the absolute best in the world upon former champion, Floyd Mayweather's departure from the sport.
For his part, Gonzalez has earned his spot on top of boxing's food chain, and is rightly considered the odds-on favorite to become the victor on October 17, but Viloria, as good as he looks now, is a legitimate threat as anybody.
Viloria acknowledges this fight to be the biggest in his career, and it most certainly is. The good thing is that this type of fight is exactly what brings out the best in the Hawaiian Punch. Fans can expect Viloria's best form, and for him to give Gonzalez a good run for his money.
Viloria is currently riding a four fight winning streak, with his last three coming by way of knockout, while Gonzalez is undefeated as a professional and is on a nine fight knockout streak.
Of the two, it is actually Viloria who has faced the bigger name opponents, but Gonzalez is so impressive and so dominant that he is ranked high atop the sport's list of best fighters.
Viloria and Gonzalez will square off in a 12-round battle for supremacy, which will serve as the co-main event of the evening alongside the highly-anticipated Gennady Golovkin - David Lemeaux middleweight matchup.
This will also be the first time Viloria has competed at Madison Square Garden, considered to be the Mecca of boxing.
