YG Entertainment's new male group iKON is taking the Kpop scene by storm, but the rookie idols may face off with other groups like GoT7 and Monsta X.
Various Kpop-related websites cited the similarities of the three idol groups. All groups are consisted of seven members and venture in pop and hip-hop genre. The groups all have the new generation of the best dancers in the Kpop scene.
iKON battled with GoT7 in the survival program "WIN: Who Is Next?" as part YG and JYP Entertainment's tradition of battling the trainees. Meanwhile, Monsta X under Starship Entertainment surprised everyone with their powerful hip-hop rap and moves and grooves offering something fresh in the scene heavily laden with cutesy idol groups.
iKON gained so much attention since the group released their debut single "My Type" last month. The group also held its official debut concert on Oct. 3 in Seoul Olympic Park. Upon dropping their half album, iKON is fondly called as the new generation of Big Bang, which is the group's "sunbae" from the same company.
There are high expectations on YG's newest male group as they have amassed large number of fans. iKON is referred to as wonder group of Kpop as it is blessed with the best singers, songwriters, rappers, and dancers that promise to follow the footsteps of Big Bang.
On the other hand, three months after their debut in South Korea, iKON is already heading to hold their debut in Japan. YG Entertainment announced that the new boy group is set release their Japanese debut album in January 2016 and will embark on their "iKON JAPAN TOUR 2016" a month after, according to All Kpop.
