"The Martian" actress Naomi Scott has joined Dean Israelite's forthcoming action adventure hero film "Power Rangers."
The official Twitter account of Power Rangers tweeted a photo of 22-year old Scott as Kimberly Hart, also known as the Pink Ranger, which means that the "The Martian" actress is set to don the pink Power Ranger spandex suit.
Scott is known for her roles in Kelly Marcel and Craig Silverstein's adventure mystery sci-fi television series "Terra Nova," Patricia Riggen's family musical television movie "Lemonade Mouth," Peter Szewcyk's short drama thriller "Our Lady of Lourdes," and mystery crime drama series "Inspector Lewis."
While Scott has no other future project aside from Israelite's forthcoming "Power Rangers," she has appeared as Ryoko in Ridley Scott's sci-fi space film "The Martian." The actress is also set to appear in Patricia Riggen's drama film "The 33," which is set to premiere on Nov. 13.
According to Cinema Blend, Scott's largest role so far was in the family comedy television series "Life Bites." However, it is going to change when she wears her pink suit and join the other Power Rangers in Israelite's upcoming film.
Naomi Scott topped "Insidious: Chapter 3" actress Stephanie Scott for the role. Meanwhile, "It Follows" actor Daniel Zovatto, "Chasing Life" star Ross Butler, and "Major Crimes" actor Brian "Sene" Marc auditioned for the role of Zack/ the Black Ranger while "Shortland Street" actor KJ Apa, "Arrow" star Austin Butler, and "Descedants" actor Mitchell Hope are up for the role of Jason/ the Red Ranger, as per Superhero Hype.
Previous reports say that Fans will be seeing the titular hero team fight their main adversary, Rita Repulsa. Repulsa was also the first antagonist in the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" television series. She is known to have her iconic crescent-topped staff, which is capable of giving her massive power and ability to create humanoid and robotic figures.
"Power Rangers" follows a group of teenagers who can morph into superheroes who wear colored costumes tasked to fight monsters that threaten Earth, along with the giant robots called Zords. The Zords can be summoned to battle colossal aliens and they can also assemble themselves into a single fighting robot.
Aside from Israelite as the film's director,"X-men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are on board to pen the script of the upcoming "Power Rangers."
Israelite's new "Power Rangers" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Jan. 13, 2017.
