Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr. continued his unbeaten boxing career with a unanimous decision victory over Marcos Maidana in their Saturday bout at the MGM Grand Arena.
The number one pound for pound fighter defended his welterweight and junior middleweight titles against the Argentine in a rematch that was scored 116-111 twice and 115-112, all in favor of Mayweather.
Mayweather defied the laws of aging by outboxing the Maidana using his superior footwork in their 12-round fight. Money varied his offense with sharp jabs and body blows, winning rounds with ease.
On the other hand, Maidana struggled to bring the fight to his opponent. He landed a big right hand at Round 3 but most of his others efforts were in vain.
One of the highlights of the Saturday rematch happened during the closing seconds of Round 8. Mayweather accused Maidana of biting his glove during a clinch. However, Maidana got his point deduction at Round 10 for tripping the champion.
"I felt sharper in the first fight, my rhythm was off," said Mayweather in a postfight interview.
"I got hit with some shots tonight I shouldn't have gotten hit with. But that comes with the sport."
With this rematch victory, Money now holds an unbeaten record of 47 wins.
Mayweather was also asked if he has boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao in his next list. His answer seemed to be "no, but don't blame me".
Bob Arum, promoter of Manny Pacquiao recently said that there are ongoing talks for a fight between Mayweather and the Flipino champion. However, Mayweather was quick to dismiss Arum's claims.
Earlier this week, Mayweather has expressed his desire to retire in 2015. His next match will be in May but the opponent hasn't been decided yet.
He has also made news recently when his former fiancée Shantel Jackson filed a defamation lawsuit against him. Jackson claimed that Mayweather publicly humiliated her, threatened her and physically assaulted her.
