Considered as the largest single-block expo complex in the world, the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai will finally open on Oct. 19 after its construction started in 2011.

The convention center is also known as the China Expo Complex, which spans a total of 1.47 million square meters. The center's above-ground space covers 1.27 million square meters.

Being the world's largest exhibition center, the China Expo Complex offers 500,000 square meters of exhibition space, 400,000 square meters of which is devoted for indoor exhibitions. Within the indoor exhibition space are 13 large exhibition halls measuring 28,000 square meters individually.

The center is located 1.5 kilometers from the Hongqiao Transportation Hub. It is also interconnected with the railway station of Hongqiao via its Metro Line 2. The Hongqiao airport is also a convenient distance away.

The Shanghai Municipal Government and the Ministry of Commerce of China collaborated in order to bring the new convention center to completion.

The new China Expo Complex will be hosting the China International Auto Products Expo as its pilot event before opening officially.

An estimated 50,000 visitors are expected to visit the event each day from Oct. 19 to 21.

For 2014, three events are already slated for hosting at the new establishment, while over 10 events have been scheduled for 2015.
