In response to Retina MacBook Pro owners' complaining that the anti-reflecting coating on their glass screens wears off even if they maintain it properly, Apple will reportedly launch a program to replace the damaged displays for free. MacBook Pro owners can get their worn-out touchscreens replaced with a brand new one up to three years after the original date of purchase (DOP).
MacRumors first reported the Quality Program to deal with the problem.
Apple will also reportedly replace the damaged MacBook screen within one year after October 16, 2015. That is if the date is later than three years after the portable computer's DOP.
MacBook Pro owners without a warranty who repaired their Apple computer's Retina screen can get a refund, according to MacRumors. That is through AppleCare support.
MacBook Pro owners with damaged anti-reflective coating have a few options to learn if their computer is covered by the replacement program. They can make an appointment at an Apple retail store's Genius Bar, or go to an Apple authorized service center, according to Macworld.
MacRumors first reported the problem with the portable computers' Retina displays in March. Thousands of netizens have reported issues with their Retina MacBook Pro's screens on Facebook, or signed a Change.org petition.
Various factors can cause the anti-reflective coating to wear off. They include using certain cleaning solutions, and the MacBook keyboard and trackpad putting pressure on the mini computer when it is closed.
Reliable sources shared that Apple has no plans to publically announce the Quality Program on its support website. However, it might directly contact some customers.
The Retina MacBook Pro was released on April 10, 2015.
