Maroon 5 may topbill the 2016 Super Bowl unfolding on Feb. 7, 2016 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The pop rock band with a string of hit songs that have resonated all over the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia had extensive talks with the National Football League to be the frontrunner for the coveted gig, E! News reported.
Adam Levine himself excitedly tweeted that the band may be headed to the Superbowl in 2016. It was met by a roar of approval from his followers on Twitter sphere.
Maroon 5 is currently in the thick of a world tour promoting its latest album, dubbed "V." The group thrilled fans from Spain, to Asian countries that include Bangkok, the Philippines and Singapore, to New Zealand.
In May, the band's Liverpool concert was canceled owing to a throat problem suffered by Levine. After taking pause, the "Sugar" crooner was able to rejoin his band members for their scheduled gigs.
The next stops for the Grammy Award-winning pop group in late February 2016 onwards are Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile.
Levine has soared in popularity not only as Maroon frontman but as a returning coach on the American reality TV singing competition "The Voice." He also occasionally guests on American talk shows.
Levine and his bandmates have been hailed as American pop music industry's "most consistent acts" and are highly touted to take the torch from previous Super Bowl performers that include Bruno Mars and Katy Perry, Billboard reported.
There are other big names floated around who can take part in the largest crowd-drawer of 2016.
