After months of waiting, "Married at First Sight" has been renewed for a third season. The two-hour season 3 premiere airs Dec. 1 at 9pm on FYI.
According to People, unlike the former season in which the contestants all came from New York, the third season will be set in Atlanta. It was also said that the episodes will be longer this time around by as much as 15 minutes, making the entire airing up to 90 minutes.
From thousands of applicants willing to participate in the social experiment , specialists handpicked three couples whom they think will be perfect for each other based on "scientific matchmaking."
The specialists are sexologist Dr. Logan Levkoff, psychologist Dr. Joseph Cilona, sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz and spiritual advisor Greg Epstein.
At the end of the season, the couples will decide if they will remain married or file for a divorce.
Many fans have assumed that "Married at First Sight" will be replaced by "Seven Year Switch" after season 2's disaster pairing. None of the three couples decided to stay together with one pair even ending in a nasty separation.
As reported by NY Post, season 2's Jessica Castro filed a temporary restraining order from estranged husband Ryan De Nino. Castro claimed that De Nino threatened to kill her and her family if she files for a divorce.
At the season finale, Castro and De Nino decided to stay together but eventually break up after the former caught her then husband cheating on Valentine's Day.
The producers of the show received backlash from viewers following the incident, as they pointed out that they failed to screen applicants thoroughly. They, however, explained that their experts were more than capable.
