"Lionel Messi has reportedly indicated he's ready to quit Barcelona. After 14 years in Catalonia, it is claimed he wants to test himself in the Premier League, with Manchester City, United and Chelsea interested all in the four-time World Player of the Year."

Mirror gives the details on the case: "The 28-year-old and his father Jorge are facing trial over an alleged £3.1m tax fraud. Messi's current Barcelona contract is due to expire in June 2018 and has a buyout clause of €250million in it."

Daily Telegraph quoted a report from The Sun (membership required) that Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all expressed interest in acquiring probably the best football player of all time.

"Yes, that's right, with January but two months away, the silly season is starting up anew. We are told that United, Chelsea and Man City are ALL attempting to persuade Lionel Messi to join them."

Also, the teaser: "And.... wait for it.... the Barcelona star has apparently 'given the clearest hint yet he is ready to listen'. 'The Sun' reveals that informal approaches to Team Messi have been made, with one of the Premier League's big three making contact twice in the last week."

The strongest claims were made by The Sun and the other publications are feeding off the scoop while still in the process of confirming its veracity.

While this news will rock the Football landscape, it's probably best to wait for further developments.
