"Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension" is the 6th film in the franchise, and also the final one. It should be the movie that finally explains everything, but according to critics, it failed in this regard and also failed in the CGI department.
The "Paranormal Activity" movies have always been a spectacle similar to the "Saw" films. These films tend to have a very loyal and fanbase, and as such, they will make a lot of money despite whatever critics have to say.
One of the interesting aspects of "The Ghost Dimension" is the fact that it is the first in the franchise to support 3D effects. Furthermore, the film has more CGI effects when compared to the others, though according to some critics, the CGI effects were not up to scratch especially in the last moments of the film where things got a bit intense.
The best thing about "The Ghost Dimension" from what we have seen is the cast members. They are, according to some critics, the one aspect of the film that kept it watchable. At the moment, the overall rating of the final installment in the series on Rotten Tomatoes is a disappointing 15 percent. At this rate, the film might not stay in the top 10 at the box office for very long.
What's interesting here is that out of all the films in the franchise, The Ghost Dimension is the most terrible. It is also the final film, so unless Paramount Pictures is aiming to hit for another in the years to come, then it is safe to say this series has ended on a very bad note.
Here is a review roundup of what some critics had to say about the movie:
Andrew Barker from Post-Gazette: Without much spark to the jump scares, the film turns to hoary exorcism tropes and CGI fantasias in the later going, undoing much of the low-key believability that was essential to "Paranormal's" appeal in the first place.
Eric Goldman from IGN: If this were simply marketed as another Paranormal Activity sequel, it would be a decent one, albeit one showing the strain of almost any movie series going on this long (and sticking to this format). But this is supposed to be The End. Yes, what happens in the final moment is pretty huge if you were to simply state what occurs, but it lacks impact.
