"Meadowland" actress Olivia Wilde has voiced her thoughts on how female superheroes could be transformed in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.
In her interview with Cinema Blend during the premiere of Reed Morano's "Meadowland" at the Savannah Film Festival 2015, Wilde said that female superheroes should be unpredictable and complex like some of the male superheroes, like Iron Man. The actress explained that while they could be flawed in paper, they could metamorphose into "ultimate goddess of perfection."
Wilde also said that that female superheroes should be "flawless" for them to be powerful. The actress added that a female filmmaker who was working on a female superhero should know that a superpower lacks some tinge sometimes.
During the interview, Wilde also said that she was a big fan of superhero films and she had a high esteem for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Aside from Meadowland, Wilde is also set to be part of Adriana Cepeda Espinosa and James Franco's drama thriller "Black Dog, Red Dog" and Jessie Nelson's comedy film "Love the Coopers."
Meanwhile, Marvel had been doing its move to align Marvel's female superheroes to becoming perfect, as per Cinema Blend. According to the publication, Black Widow's origins had been touched in Captain America: The Winter Soldier" while Gamora and Nebula had been introduced in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Also, fans had been able to see Scarlet Witch's mind-bending powers in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
The next female superhero standalone film to hit Marvel's Cinematic Universe is "Captain Marvel. The film centers on Carol Danvers who obtains supernatural abilities from a Kree device.
In the comics, Danvers started as a member of the Air Force. But then, her exposure to the flare-up of an alien (Kree) device led her human genes to mix with the Kree genes. It gave her powers, such as super strength, speed, and agility, in addition to flight abilities and energy manipulation.
Ronda Rousey, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jennifer Lawrence have been attached to the role; however, Marvel is yet to announce the one who will don Danvers' suit.
Marvel's "Captain Marvel" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Mar. 8, 2019 while "Meadowland" hit theaters on Oct. 16.
