GoPro has released a sneak peek of footage captured from the new drone.
Earlier in the year, GoPro announced that it was working on a quadcopter for aerial photos and videos that would be available sometime in the first half of 2016. Now, the drone made its very first footage uploaded on Youtube channel.
The video explains that it was shot with a developmental prototype of GoPro's quadcopter and stabilization system, according to CNET. The footage was described as remarkably smooth, extremely stable footage, pleasing colors and a very sharp picture. It is unclear if this is the work of camera-side software or hardware stabilization, but the smart money is on a combination of both.
The maximum resolution available on the video is 1440p, clearly an evidence that it has not achieve 4K capability yet. There are many other drone makers that push the limits of their cameras, and it is likely that GoPro's will eventually shoot in UHD resolution as well.
It is also widely speculated that GoPro enlisted the help of Inspire One to build the drone, which Walmart is also using for their drone program. GoPro is looking to drones to help push the GoPro camera to a new vantage point. The company’s cameras have already been a key part to drones available from other companies.
The timing of the footage may be more than a little convenient. GoPro announced a disappointing third quarter financial statement, which caused the stock price to crash 18 percent in after-hours trading. Its new product, the drone, could help nudge GoPro back in the right direction, TechCrunch reported.
