Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Inc. began selling its accessories in the U.S. market earlier this year, and is now preparing to launch a brand new smartphone, the Redmi 2 Pro, for the first time in the country. The Redmi 2 Pro recently made its way through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification, indicating the handset could be the first Xiaomi device to be released in the U.S.
Specs-wise, the Redmi 2 Pro is expected to sport a 4.7-inch IPS display screen with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the phone could pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, along with 2GB of RAM, up to 16GB of internal memory storage, and powered by a 2,200 mAh battery.
Other specs include support for 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. The Redmi 2 Pro could have an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 2 megapixel camera on the front.
In addition, the new handset is expected to support wireless carriers in the U.S. such as AT&T and T-Mobile, according to the FCC documents. It's worth noting that the Redmi 2 Pro also has similar specs to the recently released Redmi 2 Prime, which was the first device to be made in India, according to GSM Arena.
As of this time, nothing has been confirmed yet directly by Xiaomi, and it is still unclear when exactly the new phone will arrive in the U.S. market.
Meanwhile, the Chinese company is also expecting to release another new smartphone, the Redmi Note 2 Pro, which will sport a metal body with a fingerprint sensor on-board.
The Redmi Note 2 Pro could take on the likes of Meizu's latest affordable smartphone, the Blue Charm Metal, according to Phone Arena. This new Meizu handset is made of aluminum and comes with a fingerprint scanner as well.
