Huawei Technologies Co. snatched the title as the leading smartphone manufacturer from fellow Chinese company Xiaomi. The ranking was based on overall market sales for the third quarter of this year.
According to ZDnet, Huawei registered a record 81 percent annual growth on sales in the last three months, maintaining in market momentum since the last quarter. On the other hand, Xiaomi's market dominance continues to plummet just like it did in the same quarter in 2014. Market analysts suggest that Xiaomi is having a hard time sustaining its high growth.
Canalys research analysts Jessie Ding posted a market analysis on its website saying, "Huawei's ascent to China's smart phone throne is a remarkable feat, especially in the context of an increasingly cutthroat and maturing Chinese smart phone market. On the other hand, Xiaomi, with its worldwide target of 80 million smart phone shipments for 2015, is under tremendous pressure to keep growing as it is slowing down in its key home market."
Xiaomi claims that it has sold more than 61 million smartphone unit in China in 2014. However, the company is still struggling to reach its goal of 80 million for 2015, a figure that was reduced down from the original 100 million target. The company expanded to South America early this year and managed to sell 35 million units within the first six months.
On the other hand, Huawei, despite being banned from selling networking devices in the United States, made it big by releasing an Android smartphone, the Google Nexus 6P and a smartphone that has a feature similar to the 3D Touch integrated on the latest iPhone devices.
