 A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) announced on Monday that the country is set to raise its all-encompassing strategic and cooperative partnership with Thailand to a higher level.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, met with former Thai prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in Beijing to formalize the enhancement of the ties between the two countries, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Liu mentioned during the meeting that the two countries' friendly exchanges started about 1,000 years ago, and the bilateral relations they have had are built on a solid foundation and enjoying stable growth.

The official, who expressed the CPC's willingness to bolster exchanges with the Thai Democratic Party, said that the recently concluded Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing has revitalized the economic development of the Asia-Pacific region.

Touching upon the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand next year, Liu recommended that the two countries take advantage of the occasion to further enhance the ties and grow the mutually beneficial cooperation in all aspects of development.

Meanwhile, Abhisit, who is the head of a delegation of the Democratic Party of Thailand visiting China, said that the Thai royal court, government, political parties and citizens are all desirous of stepping up cooperation with China.

He said that he acknowledges that the China-advocated Belt and Road Initiatives and the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area will create vital opportunities for Thailand and other nations.

Abhisit also voiced out his willingness to constructively promote practical cooperation between the two Asian countries.
