Statistics released by a women's organization on Tuesday show that Chinese women spend thrice as much time as men doing household chores.

The Anhui Women's Federation's findings revealed that, on average, Chinese women work 190 minutes a day on their household's upkeep, while Chinese men spend 49 minutes on chores, according to Women of China.

The data were revealed at the organization's Forum for the Family and Career Values of Contemporary Educated Women held in Hefei City, Anhui Province.

The data also showed that 96.5 percent of Chinese women and 59.1 percent of Chinese men do housework without pay.

Furthermore, 78.9 percent of Chinese people do housework in varied capacities, and women who reside in the same neighborhood as their parents spend 10 hours less on housework than those who do not, the survey found.

"Traditionally, women are responsible for cooking, doing the dishes, cleaning the house and taking care of children, while men are responsible for yard work, home improvement work and vehicle maintenance," said Zeng Wifang, associate philosophy professor at Anhui University.

Notwithstanding the gender imbalance when it comes to household chores, Chinese women in urban families have the final say in situations involving expenditures, according to the forum's gathered data.

About 55.9 percent of women in those families get to decide whether or not to shell out money, in contrast to 8.5 percent for men.
