An exceptional chance awaits fans of multitalented Chinese writer and musician Liu Sola as she and her friends perform a New Year concert on Jan. 3 at Beijing's Forbidden City Concert Hall.
For the concert, Liu Sola will be performing as the vocalist of the group as well as the composer of the pieces the main musicians will be playing. The group will be performing old songs including "Babayi" (Papa Chair), "Shengsi Qingdian" (Birth and Death Ceremonies) and "Feiying" (Flying Shadow), as well as new materials such as "Xinglunan" (Difficult Road Trip).
The main musicians include pioneering members and Liu's friends Zhang Yangsheng, Li Zhengui and Yang Jing, as well as recently added talents such as Wu Na and guitarist Liu Yijun, who joined the group in 2012.
"All 12 members in my band are equally important, though they play different roles in a concert," Liu told the media during a press conference held on Wednesday at the Forbidden City Concert Hall.
The Liu Sola & Friends Ensemble, a renowned Chinese band, is dubbed as one of the most pioneering bands in the country to play different music styles, including jazz, rock, traditional, early music, classical and contemporary music.
Liu, who rose to fame as author of the novel "You Have No Choice" published in 1985, earned her diploma in Composition at the Central Conservatory of Music.
During the 1980s, she scored many Chinese and international flicks and TV productions, and had compositions made for modern theater, modern dance, orchestra, opera, ensemble and art exhibitions.
Founded from her original band, Sola & Friends includes Chinese and American musicians. The group debuted in Berlin in 2003.
In the same year, the multitalented artist gathered musical talents from all over China, including instrumental virtuosos and other award-winning young soloists, to form the Liu Sola & Friends Ensemble.
